François Quéré was born in 1943 in Lannéanou in the Finistère area of France, but left this area to follow his wife into Normandy.
A student of André Hardy, he traveled the Normandy countryside to learn, train his eye, and strengthen his wrist.
His Impressionist inspiration compelled him, like his illustrious predecessors, to paint from life, whatever the conditions.

Quéré initially followed a traditional curriculum to become a teacher; it was difficult to pursue his passion and please his parents.
However, he never gave up and took advantage of every free moment to indulge in his passion: painting.
An ardent admirer of Eugène Boudin’s cloudy skies, Quéré doesn’t use a paintbrush: “I paint everything with a knife, one large and one small, on a linen canvas.”
And always outdoors, like Monet, Pissarro, or Sisley: “You have to paint what your eye sees.”
It was quite natural for our painter to set up his easel in his beloved Normandy to immortalize the Mill of the Commune of Parfouru-l’Éclin in Calvados. Capturing its old stones beneath heavy snow and a threatening sky, Quéré magnificently conveys this winter atmosphere that freezes time while magnifying the landscape.
The generous impasto allows us to see the traces left by the artist in the material and the evolution of his palette, oscillating from grays to mauves.
