An elegant Pair of French Brown and Gold Emperador Marble Obelisks

This type Marble Quartz is characterized by a dark brown to almost black background, and is adorned with intricate and veined patterns in lighter shades of brown and gold. It was quarried in Spain and Turkey making it a pricey import item.

The Obelisk design gained notoriety after Napoleon’s Egypt campaign where the Obelisks were documented and studied.
According to the Heliopolitan legend, the obelisk was one of the first representations of the God Atum-Khepri, the sun god Re. Atum, the completed being and Khepri, name of the scarab pushing a ball of clay in front of it, illustrating the primordial force. Benben was the Egyptian name for the obelisk.
Obelisks were carved from a single block of granite or quartzite whose summit ended in a pyramidion. The obelisk was sacred and symbolized a ray of sun frozen for eternity.
